Checked 8 September 2026. We read the Google Places review sample (up to five reviews per business), not every review. The businesses below have at least 4 stars and 10 reviews overall. Inclusion reflects relevant review or business information, not a ranked “best” award or verified qualification. Samples may not represent all experiences; ratings change.

A useful inquiry names the model and year, and whether the job is servicing, a running fault or another repair. Include recent work and any prior inspection findings. Ask whether the workshop regularly handles that model.
Keep gearbox work separate
For a transmission concern, describe what happens and when. Ask whether the quoted visit is an inspection, service or repair, who carries out the work and whether a written estimate follows diagnosis. Do not assume a general service includes gearbox work.
Agree parts sourcing before booking
Tell the business whether you want it to source parts or you already have them. Request the proposed part description, lead time and warranty terms. Compare those details with the labour quote so a lower headline amount does not hide a different scope.
